The tannery site will be sold to the municipality of Oost-Gelre and developed for residential housing. This means that Vitelco Leather’s activities in Lichtenvoorde will come to an end. PALI Group will continue to optimally market the hides supplied by the slaughterhouse as raw hides, wet blue, crust, or finished calf leather. The in-house slaughterhouse, the fully integrated supply chain, and the individual traceability of each hide will, of course, remain in place — a unique feature in the market.
The municipality of Oost-Gelre, which includes Lichtenvoorde, faces a significant housing challenge and is seeking available land for development. In addition to odor emissions, the presence of the tannery in the center of Lichtenvoorde limits developments in the immediate surroundings. These factors have led to an agreement between PALI Group and the municipality to cease activities at this location.
We look forward to continuing our pleasant cooperation with our customers for hides and leather in a way that suits them best.
